Explainer: traces in London sewage have led to concern that virus that causes disease could gain foothold in areas with low vaccination rates

Routine surveillance has picked up traces of poliovirus in sewage from north and east London, raising concerns that the infection could spread and cause harm, particularly among young children who are not vaccinated against the disease.
